Every year 3FM, one of our radio stations in Holland has an action for a charity. The concept is that 3 DJ's lock themselves up in a Glass house for one week (the week before Christmas) and they don't get any food, just a juice every day to survive. You can request songs, but for every song you have to pay. There is also an auction, a shop and you can start your own action to raise money. I hope the translation makes sense, but here is more information about the Serious Request Week: <!-- m -->http://translate.google.nl/translate?hl ... us_Request<!-- m -->

After Holland Belgium, Sweden, Kenya and Switzerland also had their own Glass House.

This year the money goes to the Red Cross to help children who lost their parents due to aids. It is a fantastic initiative. As they started by raising € 16.000,- in 2003, the result for 2009 was over € 7 million: {http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=nl&sl=nl&tl=en&u=http://www.nu.nl/binnenland/2151115/serious-request-levert-ruim-7-miljoen-euro.html&rurl=translate.google.nl&usg=ALkJrhg0AJzNRxCnKNkSLvZUa3R-fmlPUw}.

Here is a link to the webcam, it's fun to watch, even if you don't understand a word of the dialogues: <!-- m -->http://www.3fm.nl/socialradio/app/seriousrequest<!-- m -->

I wanted to point this out because I think every country in the world should have its own Glass House every year and I hope that you will be enthousiastic enough to spread the word and notify all the big radio stations in your country about this, hoping more countries will join next year.

I don't think it's possible to donate if you don't live in Holland, but for those who do like to donate let me know, I could try to contact the Red Cross in Holland to ask for the possibilities. I know they opened a special bank account for the cause, so it seems logical that anyone could donate.

Until now (2 days ahead) € 494.024,- has been raised.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

  • Thanks Souza, the more radio stations know about Serious Request in the Glass house the better. We wanna see many glass houses in the world in future!
    Hope we'll exceed the amount of 7.113.447 euro, which was raised in 2009 in Groningen. I'm pretty proud <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D --> but we can do better <!-- s;) -->;)<!-- s;) -->

    sounds awesome. how did it come about through what organization?
  • This is amazing. When people are willing to help others its a magical thing. I'll send this forward to radio stations here in Brazil.

    This is very interesting. I have heard of something like this. However, I don't think it had to do with a charity or children. No food for a week, just a juice per day? Wow.
    I think if more people could experience that, people would truly understand hunger. I get so irritated when people complain about food. I have a friend who called me and told me how she complained to the local grocery store for not having a particular fruit. <!-- s:roll: -->:roll:<!-- s:roll: --> Ugg.....it's horrible sometimes. Thank you for sharing the link about this.

    Blessings Always!

    Every Christmas, they make available "gift of sight vouchers". Instead of giving a present to people that have everything, you make a donation of $25.00, and in return, they send you gift certificates... stating you have just restored the sight of a child ... <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D --> <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D --> I brought and gave 15 family and friends the certificates for Xmas and they were overwhelmed.......
