DONOR PLEDGES UP TO $10,000 TO CHILDREN’S CHARITY IN ASSOCIATION WITH PORTRAIT OF MICHAEL JACKSON
August 18, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jerry Biederman – Tribute Co-founder / Executive Producer
Jerry@MichaelJacksonTributePortrait.com

Valerie – Executive Director of Implementation
Valerie@MichaelJacksonTributePortrait.com

DONOR PLEDGES UP TO $10,000 USD TO CHILDREN’S CHARITY IN ASSOCIATION WITH “DOT” PORTRAIT OF MICHAEL JACKSON
One Million Dots. $10,000 to Charity.

LOS ANGELES, CA – An anonymous donor has pledged to donate one penny for every hand-drawn dot – up to $10,000 USD, representing one million dots – in a pointillism portrait being completed in tribute to Michael Jackson. The donation will go to Haitian Street Kids, Inc. (HSKI) for each person who has signed up to be represented with a dot on The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait (MJTP) up until the last dot is drawn. Artist David Ilan is drawing some dots ahead of time in an effort to get the portrait completed this year. There is no cost to sign up, and it takes only seconds.

If 1,000,000 people have joined before David Ilan has drawn the final dot on Jackson’s portrait, the donor will make the donation at that time. Otherwise, when Ilan confirms the portrait is complete, the donor will be advised of the last dot number signed up, and one penny for every MJTP “Dot” member will go to HSKI.

Anyone who signs up before August 29th will have their dot placed in Michael Jackson’s image. Once the portrait is complete, when someone signs up they will be assigned a pre-drawn dot somewhere within the portrait itself, but not necessarily in the areas making up Michael’s image.

The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait is the largest Michael Jackson tribute in the world. More than 275,000 people from over 180 countries have joined the global humanitarian art project. Each dot in the drawing represents a real person. Everyone who signs up at www.MichaelJacksonTributePortrait.com gets a free hand-drawn dot in their honor added to the portrait. The project is endorsed by some of Jackson's family and friends and is being completed with the cooperation of the Estate of Michael Jackson.

Celebrity artist David Ilan uses only hand-drawn dots to create his portraits, a technique called pointillism. Ilan uses his art to motivate awareness, activism and change. Over the past 10 years, Ilan has worked on TV and movie sets, in studios, and in the homes of some of the biggest names in entertainment. Some of the celebrities who have posed for David or have participated in his projects include Jerry Seinfeld, Dr. Maya Angelou, David Beckham, Diana Ross, Adam Lambert, George Lopez, Macaulay Culkin, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Nick Cannon, Larry King, and Gladys Knight, to name a few. His portraits have been commissioned for celebrities' private use; others are created with specific causes in mind (e.g., American Cancer Society, Special Olympics of Southern California).

Haitian Street Kids, Inc., established in 1999 by Michael Brewer, is 100% non-profit, and helps orphaned Haitian street kids and runaway rastaveks (child slaves) by providing first aid, advice and hope. As funds allow, they also provide shelter and food. Long term, they wish to educate the children while lobbying the government, individuals and organizations to enforce a total and permanent ban on slavery and child abuse.

Due to disasters in Haiti and the world economy as a whole, the donations to HSKI have gone down significantly, so they do not have the required funds to help as many children in need. Donations of all amounts are appreciated; a few dollars feeds a few kids. A donation is made to HSKI on behalf of MJTP members merely by signing up – at no cost to the members.

I sincerely hope that this isn't a double post. I know I am a lil' late with the news (only a month right? ;) ), so if this is an unfortunate double posting my sincerest apologies and please delete this if it happens to be. Just thought it was interesting.
____________________________________________________________
