MJ ESTATE
Settles War with Chick
From 'Thriller' Video
33 minutes ago BY TMZ STAFF

0510-ola-ray-thriller-3.jpg

Michael Jackson's Estate has finally settled its beef with the girl who played MJ's date in the famed "Thriller" video -- three years after she filed her lawsuit.

TMZ broke the story ... Ola Ray sued MJ and his production company in May 2009 -- the month before Jackson died -- claiming she hadn't been paid royalties from the legendary 1983 music video.

The former Playboy Playmate sued for breach of contract, insisting she was still owed a massive chunk of "Thriller" profits.

We don't know how much the Estate settled for -- but from what we can gather, Ola got something.

"Thriller" director John Landis has filed a similar lawsuit against the Estate. We're told both sides are still trying to negotiate a settlement.

Michael Jackson Estate Settles War with Thriller 'Date' | TMZ.com

You know....I don't really see why this would be interesting for a tabloid like TMZ. Like many other MJ news btw. Seems that MJ wants himself in the news again.

I think this shows MJ is getting his affairs in order before he returns.

I agree Souza, he wants people talking about him.

..... and a good excuse to have everyone watch the Thriller video again and remind them how brilliant it is!

I was curious about how this works:

Do movie actors get paid each time their movie is played on TV?

Those are called residuals. From the Screen Actors Guild website: http://www.sag.org/content/resid...

Residuals are compensation paid to performers for use of a motion picture or television program after its initial use. For TV work, residuals begin once a show starts re-airing or is released to video/DVD, pay television, broadcast TV or basic cable. For film work, residuals begin once the movie appears on video/DVD, basic cable and free or pay television.

All performers hired under or upgraded to a principal performer agreement whose performance remains in the final product qualify. This includes performers, professional singers, stunt performers, stunt coordinators, pilots, dancers employed under Schedule J and puppeteers.

Payment depends on license agreements, the project’s commercial viability and when and how often the product airs. However, as long as the product is generating revenue for the producer, the performer is entitled to residuals (based on contract year and under which type the project was produced).

Between 1.5 million and 1.6 million paper checks are processed each year by the Guild’s Residuals Department.

After a performer dies all residuals will continue to flow to designated heirs as long as the TV or movie product continues to generate revenue for the producer.
Comment • Post • 18:5 on Thu Oct 20 2011

God bless to all..
