I don't think these were fake hands, but they had applied something to his hands for sure because these did look like Michael's hands. The things that looked like "hand gloves" were only bracelets.
My opinion on the O2 guy has completely changed after watching the user-uploaded version of London O2 @ 2009 where MJ was. We could see him from the side, that really proves it was him there. Lightning made him look a little different though.

But there could also be a case that this man was Barry J. Shaw, if he even exists. Who knows? They are twins, identical.. clones. And I don't have any proof as if this person exists.
I actually don't think this is a nutty theory. The possibility exists. I still don't think Michael was actually murdered, but I would definitely consider the possibility that his life was in danger and that is part of the reason for the hoax. I still think there is a much larger purpose behind the hoax, but certainly his life being in danger would be enough reason to expedite the hoax. The only thing that makes me doubt this theory is that it seems to me that this death hoax was in the works for a long time. AEG and the London concerts was a pretty short notice thing, if the information we have is correct. Of course, anything is possible at this point.
The first time I watched the O2 Annoucement was after I had watched This is it. Not being an MJ fan at all, at that time I really never paid attention to him or his looks but I was spooked by his appereance. I thought the O2 guy looked "creepy" compared to the MJ in This is it.
