The song -- "A Place with No Name" -- sounds similar to the song "A Horse with No Name" released by the group America back in 1971. We're told several years ago America's manager gave his group's permission for Michael Jackson to record the song, "A Place with No Name" -- despite the similarity.

America's current manager, Jim Morey, who was also Michael's manager in the late 80's and early 90's, tells us, "The band was honored that Michael chose to do their song and they hope it becomes available for all Michael's fans to hear."

It's unclear when Michael recorded the song.

I've always liked the song and I love Michael's version and the lyrics, it is beautiful.

    Every morning sun would rise
    Every night stars would come
    Every second we breathe oxygen
I just wanna tell you there is
A place with no name that's why I need you

I always dream that I could fly up high
But is just an imagination but you know
That I'll be there for you just tell me that you love me

No need to cry I'm always in your heart
Tell me that is no place like no name

You are my world with lots of flower
I just wanna tell you there is
A place with no name that's why I need you...

I think the lyrics of "A Horse With No Name" of America are interesting too
A Horse With No Name lyrics
    Songwriters: Bunnell, Dewey;

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

I?ve been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
?Cause there ain?t no one for to give you no pain

    La la la la la
    La la la la la
    La la la la la
    La la la la la

After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead

You see I?ve been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
?Cause there ain?t no one for to give you no pain

    La la la la la
    La la la la la
    La la la la la
    La la la la la

After nine days I let the horse run free
?Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it?s life underground
    And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

You see I?ve been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain -> no paparazzi, no public eye
In the desert you can remember your name
?Cause there ain?t no one for to give you no pain -> no one can hurt you there
    La la la la la
    La la la la la
    La la la la la
    La la la la la

I am not comfortable with this.
I once thought Michael's version had to do with the grave with no name and I loved the America version very early in my life - lately I think they have much in common with Hotel California.
A Place With No Name Michael Jackson – Here is a new song from the late Michael Jackson called “A Place with No Name” which samples America’s 1971 hit song “A Horse with No Name”. America’s current manager, Jim Morey, who was also Michael’s manager said:
“The band was honored that Michael chose to do their song and they hope it becomes available for all Michael’s fans to hear.”

America's "A Horse With No Name"
"A Horse With No Name" was a song meant to compare the similarities and the beauty of the ocean to the desert. It gives a sense of a peaceful state of mind and was written to describe the artist's passion for xenophobic landscapes (as one of the members liked to visit the area around Vandenburg Air Force Base, California). America Sang, "The ocean is a desert with its life underground and a perfect disguise above", to explain that the ocean was much like a desert in the sense that both are barren, exposed to the sun, and uninhibited by (drinkable) water. The artist explicitly describes what he had seen on his journey, to convey the idea of wide open peacefulness, A sky with no clouds.

This is what happened at Vandenburg Air Force Base on Sept 21, 2010, e.g.:
The launch, the second of three the base has scheduled for September, was the result of a team effort between the 30th Space Wing, the United Launch Alliance and the National Reconnaissance Office. [...]This evening's launch marked the 604th overall Atlas mission in U.S. history. The rocket carried a national security payload for the NRO.(USA-215)

It is significant to note that the NRO does not operate for the benefit of the US Government but for the British monarchy and Queen Elizabeth II.

Let’s talk instead about three other Laurel Canyon vocalists who will rise to dizzying heights of fame and fortune: Gerry Beckley, Dan Peek and Dewey Bunnell. Individually, these three names are probably unknown to virtually all readers; but collectively, as the band America, the three will score huge hits in the early ‘70s with such songs as “Ventura Highway,” “A Horse With No Name,” and the Wizard of Oz-themed “The Tin Man.” I guess I probably don’t need to add here that all three of these lads were products of the military/intelligence community. Beckley’s dad was the commander of the now-defunct West Ruislip USAF base near London, England, a facility deeply immersed in intelligence operations. Bunnell’s and Peek’s fathers were both career Air Force officers serving under Beckley’s dad at West Ruislip, which is where the three boys first met.

Yes saying "without no name" is a double negative so it's a round about way of saying "with a name".
  • So, Andrea, Michael is actually singing: "Take me to a place with a name"?
    (we cannot interpret it as a "unnamed grave", I guess...) <!-- s:? -->:?<!-- s:? -->

That's very interesting. The chorus is identical. If America had to give MJ specific permission to record this song, how can this random no name group record and release it?

Spin eh? 2nd Nature? Very interesting.

This is what I wrote in another thread about this very thing:
I have been wanting to hear the full version as well. This was the best "full" version I could find. I love the dancing in this video too.

I always thought this song title was very interesting because it came out not too long after Michael "died". I always took this song to mean that he was in a place somewhere, without his own name, Michael Jackson, because to the world, "Michael Jackson" is dead. The song is technically called "A Place With No Name" (<!-- m -->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Place_with_No_Name<!-- m --> ) but sung "without no name", so a double negative which would actually mean a place WITH a name. That was a pretty big clue for me at the time that Michael's alive. Plus TMZ had released the snippet:

I also thought it was interesting that a few days later, TMZ comes out with an article claiming Michael had several names:

Jackson Aliases -- The Plot Thickens
7/23/2009 11:00 PM PDT by TMZ Staff

    0701_mj_getty_52386261_ex-1.jpg

Law enforcement sources tell us they are finding a tangled web of aliases that doctors used to prescribe drugs for Michael Jackson.

As we reported Jackson used a variety of aliases to score drugs, including Omar Arnold, Michael Armstrong, Jack London and Peter Midani. We're told Jackson particularly favored the name Omar Arnold.

Here's how crazy it got: The L.A. County Coroner's office took Jackson's medical records from Dr. Arnold Klein last week. Law enforcement sources tell us, Klein used the name Omar Arnold on some of the files. We're told inside those files, the doctor refers to Jackson by his real name.

In several cases where Dr. Klein treated Jackson under the name Omar Arnold, we're told he sent the singer to the Spalding Pain Medical Clinic in Beverly Hills, where he performed procedures on Jackson, who was given general anesthesia. But the files at Spalding referred to Jackson by an alias other than Omar Arnold. Our sources say the doctor who runs the surgery center made it easy on the Coroner and voluntarily handed over the files in question.

Bottom line -- it's not that easy to track Jackson's treatment because of the phony names.

So without no name, fake names...fake death. Just one of the many clues. <!-- s;) -->;)<!-- s;) -->

Yes it is improper grammar. However, I don't think he is implying that it really is a place with a name or is it anything hoax related because Michael doesn't always use proper grammar in his songs, everyday conversations or interviews.

It's something to do with poetic licence - you are allowed to have bad grammar in the lyrics of songs.

I'm not saying you can't have incorrect grammar in songs. What I am saying is that I don't think Michael is trying to say that it really is a place with a name simply because he sings "place without no name". Rather I think that is just the way he is singing the song, and he still means that it is a place with no name.
