Conrad Murray's Lawyers 'Don't Have The Budget' For Lengthy Michael Jackson Trial

Lawyers representing DR. CONRAD MURRAY have urged a judge not to delay the upcoming involuntary manslaughter trial into MICHAEL JACKSON's death - because they "don't have the budget" for lengthy court proceedings.

The medic stands accused of administering the drug Propofol which killed the King of Pop in June 2009.

The case is scheduled to begin on 24 March (11), but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor could push back the start date of the trial after prosecutors called for a later hearing, according to the Associated Press.

Speaking on Monday (28Feb10), he said, "I am extremely distressed about the state of this case and whether the defense is prepared for trial and its obligations to Dr. Murray."

But Murray's legal team have appealed to Judge Pastor to keep 24 March as the start date - as they are running out of cash.

Defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan pleaded, "We need to go to trial right away. We don't have the budget that would let us draw this out."

Reports suggest prosecutors are objecting to the trial start date because they are entitled to receive discovery of defense evidence 30 days before trial starts - a deadline which has already passed. The judge threatened Murray’s lawyers with hefty fines for failing to share evidence with prosecutors.

He told the attorneys for the pop icon’s personal physician that he would impose the fines or other sanctions on Wednesday (02Mar11) unless they met their legal obligation to turn over witness statements and expert reports to prosecutors.

Meanwhile, the judge has ordered Deputy District Attorney David Walgren to turn over digital photos from Jackson's autopsy as well as all of the surveillance tapes recorded at his home on the day he died.

    I though as I read an article about this same subject a couple of days ago, that "they have the tapes"??
    Someone prob. had them all along. BUT...are they telling the DEFENSE to turn them over??? HOW'D the defense have them??? And whoever had them, how do we know they aren't doctored???

    The tapes did go missing apparently on 25-06-2009. If I had done something terribly wrong and I knew of the existence of evidence against me and panicked cause I did not want anyone to view the evidence before I could explain things myself I would go straight for the evidence and take it with me. Dr. Murray disappeared on june 25th 09 who knows perhaps he had the tapes with him and hung on to them cause he wasn't sure what to do with them or how to use them. I am just saying this as it came to mind however please note that I am not saying wether I am against murray or on his side or nothing like that. I am still taking every pieces of puzzle being put out there and seeing if they fit together without knowing what the puzzle is supposed to look like.

    So it's the DA who has the tapes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • so is this saying that defence and procicution have evidence that each are supposed to notify the other of that they haven't? <!-- s:? -->:?<!-- s:? -->

    First they say the tapes have gone missing...then it was reported there were never any tapes made because Michael didn't like to filmed at home, now the D.A. has them?

    Yes, under the law each side has to show the other all the evidence and testimonies from expert witnesses before the trial so each has the time to build their case.

    The thing I read is; first the tapes were missing and then the police has them and now DA has them. Probably IF there's a tape for real, then the police took it first and then gave it to DA for the investigation.
  • so why the focus on the defense not holding anything back when apparently the prosecution is also?

    Perhaps Michael or a family member had them and turned them over from jump. The prosecuion possibly held onto this evidence until the discovery phase to be used as the smoking gun. That's what I've been hoping all along. <!-- s8-) -->8-)<!-- s8-) -->

    Both sides always play this game. Usually to gain more time, push the trial back to have more time to prepare. Just odd that the defense is doing it when they say they want a speedy trial. I think sometimes they do it hoping they won't get caught withholding evidence.

    Funny, I never heard that one. So many things have been reported throughout this whole thing, no one knows what's truth and what's not. I guess that's the point.

    I wouldn't be surprised to see a tape at the trial. There can be a staged scene to make it look more real as a part of the show. Michael as the creator of this show, could definitely have staged a scene of it.

    Yes, that's true, many of us have been hoping the tapes would reveal 'the truth', whereas, in fact, if they ever come to light and are shown in court, they could just be more of MJ's illusion. We still won't be able to believe them!
  • OH My God... <!-- s:? -->:?<!-- s:? -->
    The question is did Michael actually live in Carolwood?? <!-- s:? -->:?<!-- s:? -->
    I wonder what is on these tapes. Is it possible Mj had cameras in his room? Or rather we'll see the picture from the corridor or outside of the house...
    I wouldn't be surprised if these tapes were actually taped in Full HD <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D --> <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D --> <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D -->

    I want to see those tapes. Also, all the stuff LaToya took from the home, I want to se those as well.
  • That is funny verylittlesusie. I was getting ready to post if the video would be in HD, since everything is these days. Is there a thread somewhere on here that says what channel the trial is to be on? I need to set my DVR to record the days.
  • I think the BIG news here is, the judge is requesting pic's of the autopsy !!!! Is he questioning whether it truly was Michael? Why would he want this ??? Hello

    I found that interesting too. Why are they important if not to prove that this autopsy really belonged to whom they claim it belonged. <!-- s8-) -->8-)<!-- s8-) -->

    <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D --> So much to digest in the last few days. It’s as though we are being purposely given some fuel for our fires since it appears that of late, some were burning out. I wonder who the supplier is? It’s like a subliminal message of don’t give up NOW. We are ALMOST THERE <!-- s:mrgreen: -->:mrgreen:<!-- s:mrgreen: -->

    we all along think it was him in the tapes. This is really very well orchastrated by Michael. He will deserve a million oscars for this one. Blessings.

    I AGREE with you. I think we will see another person who is not Michael in those tapes, and than we will see Michael coming out and he will say Gotcha... <!-- s:lol: -->:lol:<!-- s:lol: -->

    I think it would be hilarious if all that was on the tapes is Michael jumping out of somewhere saying nothing but "Boo".
  • I was going to say this earlier since one of you mentioned Carolwood I will put it here.

    I went to see MJ's Carolwood home and when I got there I looked through the gate and someone in a black jacket was there and moved back as soon as they saw me...I am not saying it is MJ because he doesn't own that house but it was weird, there was also a car parked in the garage which is probably the owners car but the car looked like the shape of the red car in the ambulance photo, I couldn't see the colour of the car as it was covered.. Also another off topic weird thing is when I was driving to his house the ambulance number 71 came past with sirens on it moved super fast, then about 20min later I saw it parked back on sunset at the firestation.
