The involuntary manslaughter trial against former Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray is officially winding down, as the defense called its final two witnesses to the stand Thursday (October 27). Day 19 featured crucial testimony from addiction expert Robert Waldman and the man believed to be the defense's star witness, Dr. Paul White, a propofol expert.

The Witnesses
» Dr. Robert Waldman, addiction expert
» Dr. Paul White, anesthesiologist and propofol expert

Key Testimony
» Dr. Waldman testified that in examining the records of Jackson's use and reception of the sedative Demerol, the singer received unusually large doses of the drug and that Jackson had started to become immune to its potency. Waldman admitted, after a heated cross-examination by the prosecution, that while Jackson seemed to have a dependency on the drug, he was not addicted to it.

» At one point during cross-examination, Waldman was asked if he would consider administering a dangerous or harmful drug to a patient if the patient requested it. Waldman's response: "Absolutely."

» Dr. White kicked off the afternoon session by explaining to the court that he has been researching the use and effects of propofol since 1983, six years before it was approved by the FDA.

» When asked by the defense if he could justify administering propofol to a patient and then leaving that patient unsupervised, as Murray is said to have done, White said, "Absolutely not." He also stated that he wouldn't have expected Jackson to die from the amount of propofol Murray claimed he administered to the pop star. White is expected to take the stand again Friday when the trial resumes at 8:45 a.m. PT.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter. He faces four years in prison and the loss of his medical license.
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1673328/michael-jackson-conrad-murray-trial-defense-witness.jhtml

  • Finally some people who are telling the truth, Michael was not addicted to propofol...

I don't believe one can be "addicted" to Propofol at all. Because of it's chemistry.
It's not heroin or alcohol. Damn wish I was more articulate and fluent in English
They tried to bring Demerol back yesterday, but failed IMHO. Bring Klein in or
shut up if you have nothing but papers with someone's handwriting on, proving
nothing really.
And.. yes, no one seems to understand MJ's death  Mystery!

The title of this article doesn't tie in with the actual report. The article says Waldman said MJ was not addicted to Demerol NOT Propofol. And Demerol is NOT a sedative, as reported, but an opioid, for pain relief not sedation. GET IT RIGHT SLOPPY REPORTERS. If I can make notes on what is ACTUALLY said, SO SHOULD YOU! IT'S YOUR DAMN JOB.

(Sorry!)

Waldman was talking about Demerol not propofol. He did not say MJ wasn't addicted to Propofol.
  • ah, i have it out of context. thought it was being spoken of, the otherway round

OK I don't find that last thread about his addiction to propofol but I had to post this somewhere.

Some time ago I've asked a specialist doctor on a romanian site what about the side effects if it's administered for many years every night for sleeping.

He doctor answered me he does not understand the my question, because Propofol is an anesthetic.

To this I asked him if it is realistic for us to believe that a person can sleep every night for years using propofol or this would be fatal or make that person a vegetable in a few months.

The doctor answered this would NOT BE POSSIBLE FOR MORE THAN A FEW WEEKS.

Well that was it for me, as Murray said Michael asked for his milk like he used his milk for years. Like I said, this story just does not make sense so even if it's so hurtful to keep going I got to be here :(.

• Let's for a moment think all is true and MJ died from Propofol. Even if he had used Prop. to sleep for years, it would not make him addicted to Propofol. Propofol is an anestetic, does not have addictive properties as painkillers have. So, Michael just WANTED TO SLEEP and found Propofol as the only drug that was able to knock him out for some time even though that was not a healthy good night sleep. It's just assholes used to make out of everything big deal in here and call names like "addicted" to everything who abuses using something. MJ had addiction to painkillers and he got that label "addicted" forever. But IF he died from Propofol, he did not have to be addicted to that drug, it could have killed him because it was used often and improperly with no necessary med. caution. The question is whether Michael would let himself to do such a careless things. Possible? Maybe because he needed to sleep, not because he was addicted. But hopefully that is not the case.
  • Hi Scorpionchik :) I agree with you.....what if? If this was even the case with the propofol I don't believe it was an addiction. If it was, somethymes things just go wrong. I also agree that Michael had addiction issues in the past. But that was in the past. This propofol stuff blows my mind as when used does not promote restful sleep that's not it's purpose, we know that. So if we know that, Michael "knew" that. Being a genius of a man I can't see him wanting something like this. But I do realize we do things that we wouldn't normally do when we are in need, in this case sleep. So would Michael let himself do such a a careless thing? I guess it really could be possible, he is only human. I hope someday we find our answers. My bottom line is this, Michael spent his whole life being aware, preparing and guiding himself through. I can't see him doing something like this to his kids and himself he is just to genius of a man. That's just my way of thinking. Take care, Love to You

@ Tink, I love you for your crude harsh honesty (and hoping none of it offends Mr Jackson of course) I too have pointed this out in previous posts.

without wanting to be degrading, this information is VERY important and is a dead giveaway that this was an illusion.

i agree with this Kras post wholeheartedly - and that isnt meant to sound as though i am offended. completely the opposite in fact.

what you pointed out gets missed, over and over and over agian.

@Tink: thank you for pointing that out!
When I read the autopsy report stating that the bladder was filled with 400 milliliters (can´t remember exactly, but I do think it was 400) of urine I just thought: NO WAY!
No way that urine would be retained in the bladder after death.
Sounds disgusting....well it´s just human. Death is ugly in it´s outward appearance.
Tink
You are right. I ask myself these questions. It all just doesn't make sense.
Especially water-related moments.
And I can't believe someone would sleep on Propofol night after night, willingly :? NO WAY.
• I found this on my Natural News site. I didn't realize there was another form of propofol. Maybe someone on this site can see a link between what Michael was "suppose" to be given & this.

Omega-3 offers hope for new anti-breast cancer drugs (press release)
Monday, June 13, 2005 by: Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor | Key concepts: Cancer, Research and Omega-3

Learn more: Omega-3 offers hope for new anti-breast cancer drugs (press release) http://www.naturalnews.com/008492.html#ixzz1lgRSkKov

Dr Rafat Siddiqui, from the Methodist Research Institute and Indiana University in Indianapolis, and his colleagues studied the effect of two Omega-3 fatty acids, docosahexaenoic acid ( DHA ) and eicosapentaenoic acid ( EPA ), combined with propofol on a breast cancer cell line in vitro. Omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA and EPA have a minimal effect on cancer cells when applied alone. Propofol is a potent anti-oxidant known to inhibit cancer cell migration by only 5-10%.
The results of the study show that propofol and DHA or EPA have a much more significant effect on cancer cells when used in combination, as conjugates, than when used alone. The conjugates inhibit cancer cell adhesion by 15% and 30% respectively, reduce cell migration by 50% and increase apoptosis by 40%.

"These results suggest that the novel propofol-DHA and propofol-EPA conjugates reported here may be useful for the treatment of breast cancer" conclude Siddiqui and colleagues.

Malignant cancer cells are highly invasive cells that have lost the ability to sense cues from their environment. As a result, they start dividing abnormally, migrate and accumulate into malignant tumours, in a process called metastasis, which is potentially life-threatening. The aim of anti-cancer drugs is therefore to prevent the cells from dividing abnormally and from spreading, to kill the cells, or to cause the cells to kill themselves.

Fatty acids are often attached to drugs, because they facilitate the absorption of the drugs by the cells. Siddiqui and colleagues explain that DHA and EPA might have had this effect on propofol. They add "It is possible that these conjugates provide a mechanism whereby propofol can be retained in cell membranes for a longer duration and therefore enhance its anticancer effects".

Omega-3 fatty acids, like those found in oily fish such as tuna, salmon, herring, sardines and mackerel, are already known to have many positive health benefits. They are commonly recommended for maintaining a healthy heart, as they are known to reduce cholesterol levels and thought to help prevent cardiovascular disease. Research suggests that Omega-3 may also protect against arthritis, lupus, and asthma and help people with biopolar disorder.

This press release is based on the article:
Anticancer properties of propofol-docosahexaenoate and propofol-eicosapentaenoate on breast cancer cells
Rafat A Siddiqui1, Mustapha Zerouga, Min Wu, Alicia Castillo, Kevin Harvey,
Gary P Zaloga and William Stillwell
Breast Cancer Research 2005, 7:R645-R654 ( 7 June 2005 )

This article is available free of charge, according to Breast Cancer Research's Open Access policy at breast-cancer-research.com/content/pdf/bcr1036.pdf

Breast Cancer Research ( breast-cancer-research.com ) is published by BioMed Central ( biomedcentral.com ), an independent online publishing house committed to providing Open Access to peer-reviewed biological and medical research. He was pressuring me to stay healthy, like, "Akon eat right. What are you doing out there on the road? Are you eating? Are you exercising? Are you drinking a lot of water?" He felt like nothing could be accomplished in life if you're not healthy. […] I thought he was completely healthy from what I've seen, just a lot of people never got close enough to Mike to even know. It's always speculation. It was never them actually knowing. […] Personally, he was a mentor [to me]; he was like a big brother. He always kept me focused. If I had issues, he would console me through them. Like a lot of the controversial s*** that I was going through, Mike was really the one that really taught me how to deal with them, because no one deals with controversy better than Mike. He's been through it; he knows how to deal with it (Touche Akon ;)) !!!! ). He would say, "You've got to make sure you stay focused on the music. Don't let it de-focus you from your creation.” […] He was working on a new album, and at the same time doing his re-release [of "Thriller"]. The connection was just instant. It felt like we'd known each other for years. I knew everything about Mike, and it was really surprising that he knew everything about me. The first three months I met him, his first gift to me was a $250,000 watch; it was all diamonds. That's how giving he was. He just wanted everyone around him happy, you know? He was an incredible guy. […] We were working on a lot of ideas. A lot of the songs that were done were all ideas; they weren't really complete songs. He was the kind of person that wanted to lay all the ideas down [first]. He had put everything aside just so he could focus on this tour over at the O2 in Europe. That was his main priority, and he was so excited about it. He was like, "Man. We sold this out in a minute. My fans are still there. They still love me. They're alive." That motivated him more than anything. The main reason he had even accepted these dates was because he wanted his kids to see his legacy -- they never got to see Dad up close and personal, doing it. They've seen videotapes and concert footage. He was trying to create the most incredible show, so his kids could witness it. […] Shortly after the re-release of "Thriller," he had to go out and promote it, and then I was on the road. Every time he was in L.A. or [Las] Vegas, I probably stopped off for two-hour, three-hour visits, hung out with him and the kids... then I would go back out on the road or to the studio, but he would always keep me updated on what was going on. […] We probably talked about three months (before June 25), before I went on this European run. The last we spoke he was in L.A. working on and rehearsing for the tour, and I was actually going to go check out a couple of those rehearsals, see where he was at. He was eating healthy, working out, getting ready for this show.”

“I really want people to remember Mike as the entertainer, the creator. He was really the totem pole of what success was in the industry. When it comes to breaking records and selling records and creating concepts and ideas and high-performance concerts and shows, he set the standard for it. Not only that, but he was an incredible father, a great dad. He treated his kids like kings and queens. He was a philanthropist, gave millions and millions of dollars to charity, always wanted to find new ways to change the world. He was really funny, like, just an ordinary, all out great guy. I wish the world could have seen him outside of the entertainment, just seen Mike the person /bravo/ .”

[Akon, Senegalese-American R&B singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer]
