Posted on: 14 Feb 2011 at 10:54 AM
Joe Jackson, the father of late pop superstar Michael Jackson, has lent his star billing to a $2 billion hotel-entertainment complex called “Happyland” in Vietnam.
Jackson was on hand at the official groundbreaking ceremony over the weekend, as work started on the major development project in southern Long An province.
He is also expected to invest in a five-star hotel forming part of the project.
Compared to Disneyland by lead investor Khang Thong Group, the project will also include a water park, film studio, theatres, a riverfront boardwalk, restaurants and other facilities, according to the group.
“My wish is to promote this project to all friends across the world so that they understand more about your country,” Jackson told Vietnamese television.
During a live broadcast of the groundbreaking ceremony, Jackson added his legendary son – who died in 2009 – “lived to make people happy and I am proud to maintain that, making Vietnamese people happier”.
Deputy prime minister Nguyen Thien Nhan explained Happyland would be “the largest tourism project in South Vietnam and south-east Asia”.
Happyland is expected to open in 2014.
Nhan went on to added the “international-standard” project near the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City aimed to draw 14 million visitors a year including three million foreigners.

He looks good for 82 years, and this article also shows him respect for what he has achieved.
I'm happy for Vietnam to have this attraction.
I'm guessing Joe's investment money-wise is a pittance but his name stands for world-class/the best (MJ's father).

I agree too - this doesn't fit the "I'm so broke" theme that has been following Mr Jackson around. Not just him but every member of the family travels quite freely and lives nicely. I think it's all a smokescreen too.
Thanks for sharing this awesome story. I think this could be part of the "takeover" that BACK spoke about. Blessings.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) - February 14, 2011 (WPVI) -- Joe Jackson, father of late king of pop Michael Jackson, was in Vietnam to attend Monday's groundbreaking ceremony for a five-star hotel and amusement park called "Happyland."
Online newspaper VietnamNet said Jackson, 82, was at the groundbreaking as one of the investors in the $2 billion, five-star 1,000-room hotel and amusement park in southern Long An province, located about 20 minutes outside Ho Chi Minh City. It is scheduled to be finished in 2014, and is designed to attract up to 14 million visitors annually.
"I like discovering different cultures in the world," VietnamNet quoted Jackson as saying. "I like this project the most because it is located in a beautiful cultural and natural space."
Vietnam has promoted the project - which includes a water park, theaters and restaurants - as the region's largest entertainment complex.
Pop icon Michael Jackson, 50, died in 2009 from an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol and other sedatives. His doctor has pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter.
Michael Jackson was known for his creation of Neverland Ranch, a huge complex complete with an amusement park, in California where he lived.

We always see Joe complaining that he is broke. Then he goes and does something like this????
I have a feeling that Michael is behind this! Why else would Joe invest in this if Michael weren't alive??
