After reading this i don't no what to make of it on one hand I think there are some clue's on the other hand I think it has nothing to do with the hoax.
The part you quoted and the part that says " It came to symbolize the defense of civil liberties" I have to think over.If i figured it out I will come back on this.
I think it does no harm to look futher in to this.

We know very well Michael adore Michelangelo`s creations and spoked about him like he was a genius.
