Rumor? Ronnie James Dio Of Black Sabbath Dead?; Wife Denies; Says It’s Rumor

I got the call about 4 hours ago that Ronnie James Dio has passed away. I was asked to wait on reporting it til most intermediate family was told.

Dio, 67 had been battling stomach cancer and it was even reported earlier today that he was beating it.

I am with you all hoping it is not true. I have updated with his wife’s denial of his death, although she is saying he is not doing well, which is different than what was told a few days ago.-Dr.FB

UPDATE: According to Blabbermouth.com, Ronnie’s wife has issued this statement:

“I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing
good, but he is not dead.

“I will let you know if anything changes.

“Thank you for your concern.”

We are locking comments til more information can become concrete.

    Wait, what? ;__;
    No, no, not Ronnie. There's no way. Ok, I hope it's really just a rumor before I freak out here. It has to be a rumor.

    Actually the metal sign isn't founded on anything that controversial, even though it's been blown up into a controversy since the 80's. Most credit Ronnie with being the first to use it - he said it was based on the old Italian hand symbol for the "evil eye" - either giving it to someone, or protecting yourself from it, the hand sign being representative of both possibilities.

    Of course, Gene Simmons tries to take credit by saying he started it when he had to figure out a way to hang onto his bass pick while also waving to fans on stage. <!-- s:roll: -->:roll:<!-- s:roll: -->

    There is a metal documentary somewhere on youtube where they actually discuss this.

    RIP Ronnie.

    I don't get why this hand sign is so "disturbing" to some people.

    Yeah I get the whole omg Illuminati thing, so don't bother giving me a bunch of links and crap. I just think the thing about the hand sign is ridiculous. <!-- s:roll: -->:roll:<!-- s:roll: -->

    It really wasn't intended to be when it started. See my post above. As with many things, the media and the radical right-wingers blew it up into something it really wasn't. And the heavy metal community didn't really mind though, b/c it just generated more publicity for them.
  • This sign is "evil sign" it really comes from Italy (to call or prevent from Evil) and it became the symbol of Hard Rock, Metal, and other kind of music. Normally you also have the thumb, so that you can make 666 with your fingers. This is Evil number.
    The one that Ronnie is making is devil's horns. You can do it with your 2 fists and your "small finger" to have it bigger.
    Now Devil sign is more a symbol of "Rock" than "Evil" , I mean, I use it a lot, when I hear i good piece of Metal or Hard Rock...When I go to a bar in Paris which is only about metal/indus/hard...we always do it. I mean when there is music you like, and that you see someone in the bar, who enjoys it too, you give him this sign, just to say "woohoo, that's great !" I have many pictures of me and friends doing it...doesn't mean we're trust in Lucifer (which I don't believe in, anyway !)

    I think for music, it just means, something different, bad, not in the limits, something good people are afraid of...and so people who love rock music accepted it as a "rebel" sign against "good thinking people".

    The hand sign does not bother me as much as some of his album cover art from the 80's. But that aside, I hope he was at peace and has found peace and his family have time and privacy to grieve.

    So different from the way Michael's family handled everything. They make me very uncomfortable
    from June 25th. Waving from cars, running to Michael's house and disturbing evidence, Jermaine
    in J5 shirt 3 days after, Joe's bringing up his Record label.
  • So very sad. I'm sorry to hear this news. R.I.P. <!-- s:( -->:(<!-- s:( --> <!-- s:( -->:(<!-- s:( -->
