By Daniel Lippman NEW YORK (Reuters) - autopsy tools used for embalming and prepare the body of Elvis Presley for his funeral in 1977 and a toe tag used for identification shall be auctioned by Chicago auction house. Instruments will be released in August by Leslie Hindman auction house and include rubber, forceps, lip brush, a comb and an eyeliner, a blood tube gloves and hooks aneurysm, all of them are used only once, said the company. The collection was stored for years by a funeral home Memphis embalsamador who wishes to remain anonymous, also contemplates a finger under the name "John Doe" label. The label was used as a substitute once the original was stolen by a fan during the chaos that occurred at the hospital. "Responsible for the funeral, held the label and instruments, along with room report sheet case, labels of cleaning, the hanger of the suit and tie the singer and the invoice for the sending of the coffin, under the name"Elvis Presley", said Mary Williams, spokesman for the auction house." Objects will be sold in two lots, and the company expects to achieve between 6,000 and 8,000 $ and $ 4,000 to 6,000, respectively. Williams admitted that the auction may be controversial since some "are disappointed", by the sale of objects, but the memories of Elvis always have had high demand and a tuft of hair last year sold for $ 18,300. "In fact is about acquiring a piece of celebrities (...) and how near one can be used for embalming instruments", Williams told Reuters. Elvis died of cardiac after taking a cocktail of drugs on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, but remains within artists killed with higher income. In 2009, singer brought together 55 million dollars depending on the site's Forbes.com financial magazine. <!-- s8-) -->8-)<!-- s8-) -->

I'm pretty sure it would. however, this is disgusting selling this stuff (if it's even the real stuff that was used).

    I guess so..
And this reminds me of the auctioned syringe used to "administer propofol to Michael"
What's wrong with the people? This is so macabre..
  • oh ok! but once people will find out that he is alive, whom ever will bid for these items will be very upset!!!!!. <!-- s:roll: --><!-- s:roll: -->
  • he may selling those things before it is worth nothing. So if Elvis is declared dead(not on august 1977 but after this year) or alive soon, he better sell that when it suposed to have a money value..'cause people will know that these object has never been used on Elvis

LOL, probably but that wouldn't answer any questions, just raise more. They have compared the DNA from different samples taken at the autopsy, none of them matched another. <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: -->

Yeah, some probably heard about the DNA and the upcoming court case, so they have to be quick <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: -->

They did not have DNA technology in 1977, so how could they have taken DNA samples? This is soo Bogus!

They could take DNA samples in '77, simply through blood samples. Indeed, only in the mid 1980s, a technique was developed called restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP, pronounced “rif-lip”). This technique became the first genetic test using DNA. This means the DNA tests could have been accurately performed later, based on the samples taken in '75 and '77 (which don't match by the way, as Souza said). However, the lock of hair which was auctioned is a great clue, if it really belongs to Elvis!!! Maybe Eliza and Jesse can use it to determine one control DNA sample and to eliminate the others. Anyway, after 33 years this auction is very weird, to say the least...

    Andy

Ever heard of blood samples and samples of the liver etc? Apparently you haven't watched the videos either, because the DNA tests were first done in 2002.

Elvis embalming tools no long up for auction in Chicago

Yes, you read the headline correct. Embalming tools used on Elvis Presley were set to go to the highest bidder later this summer. The Chicago based, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers were all ready to let bidders and Elvis fans duke it out for a chance to take home: rubber gloves, forceps, lip brushes, a comb and eyeliner and needle injectors. The auction house was set to start the bidding on August 12th and estimated the bidding for the tools to start around $8,000 dollars. Idol worshippers briefly entertained thoughts of draining their bank accounts to take home genuine Elvis souvenirs.

But, bad news Elvis fans, the King and his tools have left the building.

According to an official press release from Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, the authenticity of the tools has been called into question, forcing those items to be removed from the block. This decision was not made by the auction house, but by the owner of the instruments, a former senior embalmer at the Memphis Funeral Home. The former embalmer and his son, the owners of the tools, have decided to return the instruments back to the the Memphis Funeral Home and it’s parent company Service Corporation International. By doing this, the two hope the company will donate the tools to a worthy cause.

This isn’t the first time a rather strange item of the King’s went for auction. In October of 2009 fans had a chance to bid of snippets of the Elvis’ hair disgarded upon his entrance to the military.

I actually tuned into the radio last night and was,nt expecting a discussion about this subject of Elvis' autopsy instruments. The radio personality was actually saying - how would people even know they were the actual objects and even if they were, why on earth would anyone want them? he even said its pretty macabre and even more odd that 30 years down the line they are being auctioned. I also think its all a pretty bizarre thing to do.
