'Chernobyl Diaries' -- Horror Flick RIPPED By Victim Support Group | TMZ.com

5/21/2012 1:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

'CHERNOBYL DIARIES'
Horror Flick RIPPED By
Victim Support Group

0518-chernobyl-foccus-1.jpg

The new Jesse McCartney horror flick "Chernobyl Diaries" is a slap in the face to
the 400,000 victims of the real-life nuclear disaster ... so says a Chernobyl recovery
organization.

For those unfamiliar with the Chernobyl disaster ... (shame on you if you're one of
them) ... scores of people were killed or disfigured when the nuclear power plant
exploded in the Ukraine in 1986.

0518-chernobyl-getty-aftermath-1.jpg

Now, the Friends of Chernobyl Centers U.S. tells TMZ ... it's furious with the plot of
the new movie -- in which several people who were mutated in the blast hunt down
unwitting tourists.

"It is terrible that such a tragic event as Chernobyl is being sensationalized in a
Hollywood horror film," a rep for the org tells us.

"Thousands of people have died and over 400,000 people were evacuated from their
homes. Today over 5 million people still live on contaminated land. The horror is not
mutants running around, the real horror is the effect that Chernobyl continues to have
on the lives of millions who have been devastated physically, emotionally and
economically."

The rep adds, " If you feel compelled to go see this movie, take the adrenalin you get
from the horror to go do something good and make a difference in the lives of those still
living with Chernobyl every day."

We need to be aware of what is going on in our world as the Army of L.O.V.E.

Just a reminder how sick Hollywood is... no empathy for the hurting in the world... just a money grab.

The devastation is still there and there is still work to do. But this is not an isolated incident. There is so much work to be done around the planet, and in our own backyards.... if we would only pull ourselves away from the movies, tv, internet... and actually get into the real world and make a difference!

There you have it folks. Let's begin the reeducation of what it means to actually give a damn about the planet and the people in it.
B.A.M.! :D

Oh and last thing... this totally reminds me of "Why You Wanna Trip on Me" where Michael talks about how people are so concerned with saying he's different and getting into his biz (Hollywood Tabloid trash) when there are so many more pressing things going on in this world!

"Why You Wanna Trip On Me"

They Say I'm Different
They Don't Understand
But There's A Bigger Problem
That's Much More In Demand
You Got World Hunger
Not Enough To Eat
So There's Really No Time
To Be Trippin' On Me

You Got School Teachers
Who Don't Wanna Teach
You Got Grown People
Who Can't Write Or Read
You Got Strange Diseases
Ah But There's No Cure
You Got Many Doctors
That Aren't So Sure
So Tell Me

Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Stop Trippin'

We've Got More Problems
Than We'll Ever Need
You Got Gang Violence
And Bloodshed On The Street
You Got Homeless People
With No Food To Eat
With No Clothes On Their Back
And No Shoes For Their Feet

We've Got Drug Addiction
In The Minds Of The Weak
We've Got So Much Corruption
Police Brutality
We've Got Streetwalkers
Walkin' Into Darkness
Tell Me
What Are We Doin'

To Try To Stop This

Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Ooh Stop Trippin'
Yeah Stop Trippin'
Everybody Just Stop Trippin'

Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Stop Trippin'

Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Why You Wanna Trip On Me
Ooh Stop Trippin'
Yeah Stop Trippin'
Everybody Just Stop Trippin'

Stop Trippin'
Stop Trippin'
Stop Trippin'
Stop Trippin'

I'm guilty of it too! I'm on this board talking about making a difference while I should get off the computer and actually GO OUT and make a difference! What a concept! :icon_rolleyes:

PS I'm not down on myself. I am actually doing things to make a difference, however, there is SO MUCH MORE to be done and not much time to do it in. We are living on borrowed time.

Yeah it was terror those days. I rememeber it very well. My father came home very scared that day, everything was a confusion. My mom died of cancer, also other people of her age died in the last years of cancer. Was that the Cernobal effect? We don't know for sure, but I remember it was said that the effects on people's health in Romania will be visibile in about 2 years.

Even here the vegetables were thrown away (for a few days, I think they miraculously grew back in 3 days), so I can imagine it was worse where you are. I think a large part of Europe was under radiation, way larger than they told people.

Ireland has one of the biggest Chernoboyl Children projects in the world. Every summer, thousands of kids affected by Chernobyl get to be sent over to the countryside in Ireland. We always keep two kids, most of them do not speak English but they come over with their dictionaries :icon_e_biggrin:
  • When I saw the previews I also thought this was distasteful. They should send most of the profits to the victims of that terrible tragedy.

    Google for Chernobyl children.
Children are still born today with health defects and are suffering big times.
Who wanted to do some good was adopting a child to free them of unbelievable shelter conditions.
Chernobyl is not over yet. Japan will know the same effects.
It is tasteless to make fun of it.

How would New Orleans citizens feel if Hollywood made fun of them.
Good gracious. This planet needs more prayers and help not more movies.
TDCAU
I agree. It is tasteless.
Not only tasteless but also disrespectful and rude.

It saddens me to see how the world becomes more shallow and unloving every day.
It´s so important to pass moralities on to our children, to teach them to love and respect, to feel compassion, to care for others and the world we live in.
Well this does not seem to happen anymore in so many families.
Societies without moralities are rotten. We´re heading for disaster.
Today more than ever.
This movie is just one more reflection of the decay....

I agree with @Grace: this world needs more prayers and help and also more love and more effort.

*Sigh*
