I found this photo on a facebook group:
[Click here for the full view: <!-- m -->http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak- ... 1744_n.jpg<!-- m --> ]
and I confirm the differences, I've just bought my copy..
The face that seemed to be MLK has been removed, and Michael Captain EO has a different face (and it seems a photo taken during bad tour rehearsals), and arms lower than in the original photo (and the first cover).
What do you think about that?

But still the cover was supposed to be an art, so do not really understand why two different silhouettes depending on the type of pack?
This is what I was thinking too.. This was supposed to be an oil painting. What else has been changed from the original painting (if a paint does exist)?

Arms up is victory, strength, steadfast. Arms down is defeated, surrendering, beaten. Captain Eo came to save the planet and send out a major love. Not So Fast! says Evil $ony...
That's pretty clear. The new version has the $ony corporate "touch" to it. Some Hollywood Friends added (who weren't real friends at all and some who stabbed him in the back) and a subliminal message illustrating their at long last ultimate control over Michael Jackson (ooo that Evil $ony! lol). Let's get rid of the MLK Jr too, too much minority empowerment there.
I think MJ wants us to hate Evil $ony.
Exactly what I was thinking about the MLK Jr. removal.
This seems to be a photo of the painting in a frame - this article says it is displayed at the recording studio of Marvin Gaye in Hollywood - Marvin's Room Recording Studio

Portrait of Jackson's life
Updated: 09:53, Saturday December 11, 2010
Michael Jackson's over-the-top lifestyle and character has been emulated in a new painting of the late pop star.
Californian artist Kadir Nelson has created a portrait honours his life and attitude which will grace the cover of Jackson's upcoming album, 'Michael.'
The painting shows a chronological life of Jackson, from his beginnings with the Jackson Five to his never-achieved 'This Is It' concert series.
The oil on canvas artwork currently resides in the Marvin Gaye recording studio in Hollywood - which is where Jackson saw a similar piece dedicated to Gaye in 2001, and wanted one of his own.
'I've been drawing Michael since I was eight years old. When 'Thriller' came out, I was inspired to draw him and I drew him all the way through college. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I got a phone call from Michael Jackson saying that he wanted me to paint a picture of him,' said Nelson.
Before the painting could be started, Jackson's legal scandals forced the painting to be delayed.
Yet after his death in 2009, Nelson was contacted by Jackson estate co-executor John McClain, who then commissioned the work.
'He's being crowned by two cupids and has his hand placed over his heart because Michael put his heart into everything that he did. And I felt that it was kind of an endearing look that he was giving his fans; he's giving his heart to his fans,' said Nelson.
The painting includes up to 50 images of the pop King - the age in which he reached before his death.
Also included are images from his life; from Bubbles the chimp, his three children, and various people who had influenced his life.
'Michael was close to a number of people throughout his life, particularly women, so I felt that it would be important to show some of the women that he had close relationships with like his mother, like his sister, Janet, Madonna and Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor.'
The painting will remain at the Marvin Gaye studios, with plans in the works for a public display.
Fans can grab a look at a copy of the painting on the the album cover when 'Michael' drops on December 14.

Thanks anewfan for the link to the interview with the artist, Kadir Nelson and thanks pepper for all the links and information. In the interview, the artwork is the Captain EO 'arms up' version. I now have the album - with the 'arms down' cover. There are supposed to be 50 images of Michael for each year of his life - I can only count 30 something - still looking.
For me this thread and the information in the thread pepper started about who commissioned the art work, <!-- l -->viewtopic.php?f=120&t=16482<!-- l -->, confirms that the artwork, the trailer and therefore the album is not a random patchwork thrown together by the axis of evil.
In the trailer I see a focus on Captain EO, the camera, the reel, Smooth Criminal, the mirror, repeated and multiple images - usually in sets of two or three - the animals, the roller coaster, the rising bubbles, the moon and the crowning. The release of the songs wasn’t random either. Someone’s telling us a story.

I have no idea, but it really stood out for me...especially since the 10th person is not small (which could have been representing Brandon)...they look more like a teenager. It's all so strange....so very stange!
The two faces are the only ones that overlap, which tells me they're connected. That seems to represent Marlon's stillborn twin, Brandon. Maybe it's just the artist's rendition of what Brandon could have looked like at that age.
I agree....it is straight.
to me it looks like a street name with 2300 in the corner..does somebody know the street were mike grew up
LOVE to you all
Thank you for your comment. Don't you find it weird that they would include Marlon's twin as a grown kid? Maybe I am the only one that thinks it's weird?
Also, It is.
