1 Corinthians 13

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Love plays such an important role in the relationship with God and others that without him all efforts are useless. The most visible spiritual gifts cannot replace love. The noblest works lose their meaning if they are not inspired by love.
Love is the greatest virtue and necessary, happy day of love for all bearhug
Indeed the greatest is love.......if the world would only listen to that and take it to heart. I wish you all a very Happy Valentine's Day....or just a very Happy Love Day : )

Great re-direct TS....thank you!
Faith, Hope, LOVE
"All you need is love, doobadoobadoo..."
...love you all... Happy Valentine's Day bearhug

(...may there be love on every other day of the year... don't forget...)
My all-time favourit. Thanks for reminding us.

1 Corinthians 13

1 If I speak in the tonguesurl=http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+13&version=NIV#fen-NIV-28667a]a[/url of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,url=http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+13&version=NIV#fen-NIV-28669b]b[/url but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
I'm wishing Mike and everyone here a VERY happy day of love...

@Grace...thank you for posting the verses from 1-13....verse 13 sums it up perfectly and beautifully, while the verses before it are filled with beauty in detail, language, and love. Anyone can say what they will about the Bible (I know I have)...but no one can deny the absolute exquisiteness and beauty of the language of many of the 'writers' (it's poetry on crack lol). Who talks or writes that like anymore? Better yet, who truly KNOWS and lives that kinda love in their daily lives? What a world it would be if we KNEW that kind of love! I hope and pray to God that Mike---or at this point, anyone lol...but I SO hope it's Mike ::P----(with the help of God) is gonna help the world KNOW that kind of love.

Although I've read this passage many times before and have always loved it on so many levels....having read it again just now was like reading/seeing it for the first time (in essence, it was the first time this 'me' read it.....'me' is always changing lol). Verse 12 especially struck a chord with me....

12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
This just brought tears to my eyes. You can just FEEL the L.O.V.E. can't you? And who has taught us more about Faith, Hope and Love than Michael? Happy Valentines Day to you, Michael, wherever you are. And big shout out of LOVE to everyone on this forum for helping to keep me upright through the past couple of years.
Thank you TS and Happy Valentine's Day! What a wonderful reminder... it's all for L.O.V.E.

What I also love is the page TS redirected to (not his usual Bible Gateway) so maybe he wanted us to get a FULL understanding. On that page we have all the different translations of the Bible. Note, the message is the SAME. There are also cross references on the right hand side and commentaries further down the page. All this to help us really grasp what it is to love. Truly love one another.

Just sharing a couple things with you on this topic of love:

Here's a post I found last year on the scientific need for love:
http://lilwendy.wordpress.com/2010/04/05/scientific-need-for-love/

Here's some personal study notes of mine on love:
http://lilwendy.wordpress.com/2012/02/14/what-is-love/

Hopefully this blesses you all on this LOVE day!

Thanks again TS for thinking of us!
Thank you TS for the re-direct, may you always be blessed with True Love.

True Love = God’s Love

Thank you everyone for your love-filled posts, so sweet. )
I loved your picture Wishingstar, it reminds me so much of my childhood. Thank you to have posted it.

A dear sister of mine wrote a little poem and I want to share it with you. It’s simple, so beautiful and true:

“When with passing time the world breaks us down
Hope is the only thing that lifts us up
And when our minds become a dark tangled web of confusion
It is Faith that leads us to the light once again
And finally when all the illusions have faded away
We will see that true Love was always waiting to embrace us”

On this Love day, here’s a never-fading rose for each one of you, my hoax family members...

God bless you all. bearhug
Now wait just a second...

one could insinuate that that slogan is stating that atheists live loveless lives... which I'm here to tell you ain't true.

It's interesting that from my perspective, the verse says the exact opposite of the popular adage you posted.

The verse says to me, Know Love, Know God. No Love, no God// which is worlds apart in meaning from the conventional accepted interpretation.

I know you didn't make up the saying, it's a popular one among Christians, but now that I know the verse it refers to, it seems another example of scripture being twisted and tainted to extract exclusionary and segregating interpretations, elevating Christians above all other peoples.

Because the popular version, that you posted, says to me that if you don't accept God, you are bad. The scripture says to me that if you know love, you already know God, just like that, because the emotion you feel when you feel love is God's love coming from within you.

Anyway, that's just my impression of it all. Again, for whatever it is worth.

@BeTheChange, nice post. It's so easy to become cynical and jaded when we live in a world facing an epidemic of conditional love, which is not really love at all. And I, also, look forward to the transformation that lies ahead. I send you and all my hoax family a Happy Valentine's Day wish for the real thing.
It's so easy to become cynical and jaded when we live in a world facing an epidemic of conditional love, which is not really love at all.
Is God's love really unconditional?

Matthew 7:20-23 (Jesus' words)
20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Yes, I believe it is--divine love for EVERY human that ever lived! Apply 1 Corinthians 13 to God, and EVERY human has to be loved! Many have just lost their way like stupid sheep, but Perfect love will restore and heal them, and this planet!

Isaiah 53:6
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us ALL.
Because as you say, "Conditional love is not really love at all".
